The history department of DPS Dwarka in association with the Council of Architecture organised a Heritage Walk at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This educational visit was initiated to introduce students to the historical, cultural, and architectural significance of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The visit was guided by Dr. Ayla Khan, an esteemed scholar in architecture, who provided insights into the diverse architectural influences that shaped this grand structure.
The trip commenced with a visit to the Aroma Garden, a beautifully curated space filled with herbs, flowers, and medicinal plants. This visit highlighted the importance of landscape architecture and the role of nature in enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of monumental structures. Upon entering the main Rashtrapati Bhavan building, students observed its grand interiors and intricate detailing, which blend multiple cultural influences. Rashtrapati Bhavan is a unique fusion of Indian, European, Persian, and Mughal architectural elements, symbolizing India's diverse heritage and colonial past. Dr. Ayla Khan explained how the structure was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, who integrated elements of classical European architecture with Indian traditions.
Key areas visited were Ashoka Room, Ganatantra Mandap, Syaru, Tungabhadra, Brahmaputra, and Damodar along with a scenic view of the Mughal garden from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
This educational tour reinforced the importance of architectural heritage and cultural synthesis, inspiring students to explore the deep connection between history, art, and architecture in their future academic endeavours.
