IDENTIFYING CLINICAL CONCERNS IN CHILDREN AND BASIC SUPPORT STRATEGIES

A workshop on “Identifying Clinical Concerns in Children and Basic Support Strategies” was held on Friday, 23 May 2025 in the school auditorium. The session was facilitated by Dr. Astik Joshi, a distinguished child and adolescent Psychiatrist known for his expertise in child and adolescent mental health.

Dr. Joshi began the session by shedding light on common clinical concerns in children, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), and behavioural disorders such as Conduct Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He provided valuable insights into their identification, symptoms, and prevalent myths, as well as the interventions and support strategies that can be adopted at both home and school.

He emphasized the importance of early identification and timely intervention in minimizing the long-term impact of these conditions. The session also highlighted the significance of adopting a collaborative and integrated approach involving teachers, parents, counselors, and healthcare professionals to address the child's needs holistically.

Dr. Joshi further discussed the emotional, social, and academic impact of these concerns on a child’s development and well-being. His approach encouraged empathy, awareness, and proactive support within the school community.

The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where teachers sought clarification and shared their observations and concerns. Dr. Joshi responded to queries with depth and clarity, making the session engaging and informative for all attendees.

Overall, the workshop was an enriching experience that enhanced awareness and equipped teachers with practical knowledge to better support children with clinical concerns.

    PROJECT ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

    Objectives: The main objectives of giving project work on Disaster Management to the students are to:

    1. Create awareness in them about different disasters, their consequences and management.
    2. Prepare them in advance to face such situations.
    3. Ensure their participation in disaster mitigation plans.
    4. Enable them to create awareness and preparedness among the community.

     

    GUIDELINES FOR PREPARATION AND SUBMISSION OF PROJECT REPORT

    Following essentials are required to be fulfilled for preparation and submission of project report:

    1. The total length of the project report will be 15 - 20 pages.
    2. The project report will be handwritten and credit will be awarded to original drawings, illustrations and creative use of eco friendly materials.
    3. The project report will be presented in a neatly bound simple spiral folder.
    4. The project report will be developed in this sequence:
    1. Front Page / Cover- Cover page showing project title, student information, school and year
    2. Index- List of contents
    3. Acknowledgement.
    4. Introduction
    5. Content (10-12) pages.
    6. Conclusions (summary and suggestions or findings, future scope of study)
    7. Bibliography.

      SOLVING RUBIKS CUBE ACTIVITY

      Day / Date : Friday, 16 May 2025

      Solving Rubiks Cube Activity was organised by the Ravi House of Delhi Public School Dwarka on Friday, 16 May 2025 for the students of VI-VIII. The aim of the activity was to promote healthy competition among the students.

      The activity was held in two rounds, comprising Preliminary Round and the Final Round. All participants from houses Ravi, Jhelum, Chenab and Ganges enthusiastically participated to prove their skills. After the Preliminary Round four fastest solvers from each house made their way to the Final Round in which speed cubers competed for their final positions.

        Inter-House Quiz Competition by QQ (The Quizzing Club)

        An Inter-House Quiz Competition was organized by QQ – The Quizzing Club of DPS Dwarka on 16 May 2025 from 8:30 AM to 10:20 AM in the School Auditorium. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from all four houses, showcasing the students' knowledge, quick thinking, and collaborative spirit.

        The quiz covered a wide range of topics including current affairs, science, literature, sports, and history, encouraging well-rounded learning and fostering a competitive yet positive atmosphere.

          ROBOTICS ORIENTATION SESSION

          An orientation workshop was conducted by the members of Robodex Club for the students of Class VI on Thursday, 15 May 2025. Under the guidance of teachers, senior members of the club led the session. A presentation was showcased highlighting various activities of the club followed by a PPT and video on constructing a wired robotic car.

          The highlight of the session was a live demonstration of a robotic car which captured the attention of the young audience.

          The enthusiasm and excitement of the budding technocrats was truly commendable.

            EXPRESSIONS OF JOY : A CREATIVE APPROACH TO WELL-BEING

            CLASSES: III-V

            In alignment with the CBSE curriculum's holistic development approach, our school made the Happiness Curriculum a part of its regular learning framework to nurture emotional well-being, resilience and a positive mindset among students. Over a two week period, from 01 – 15 May 2025, children enthusiastically participated in a series of thoughtfully curated, age-appropriate activities designed to help them explore the concepts of happiness and gratitude in joyful and creative ways.

            Activities Conducted:

            Class 3 – Happy Bookmark activity:

            • Students created cheerful bookmarks using positive words and bright colours. This creative task encouraged them to appreciate small moments of joy and acted as a gentle reminder to find happiness in their everyday experiences.

            Class 4 – Handprint Happiness activity:

            • Students traced their hands and wrote one thing that makes them happy on each finger. This visual and reflective exercise helped them connect with their emotions and express gratitude for the simple joys in life.

            Class 5 – Sunshine Rays of Happiness activity:

            • Students drew a bright sun and wrote happy thoughts or actions on each ray, symbolizing how they spread happiness around them. This helped them become more aware of their role in creating a joyful and positive environment.

            These engaging and meaningful activities were thoroughly enjoyed by the students and successfully fostered happiness, gratitude, empathy and emotional intelligence. Through hands-on participation, students reflected on what brings them joy and how they can share happiness with others.

              TALENT SHOW

              A vibrant Talent Show was held on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, for students of classes III - VIII with the purpose of encouraging Children with Special Needs (CWSN) to perform alongside their peer buddies and celebrate their unique abilities.

              The event served as a joyful platform where students confidently expressed themselves through various creative performances.

              Participants showcased a wide range of talents including soulful singing, energetic dancing, expressive poetry recitations and captivating storytelling.

              The atmosphere was filled with excitement and appreciation as each performance was met with enthusiastic applause and cheers.

              The talent show stood as a celebration of individuality, inclusivity and the power of encouragement. It highlighted the significance of providing equal opportunities for all children to shine in their own way. It reflected the school’s commitment to creating a caring and inclusive environment where every child feels valued.

                MOTHER’S DAY ACTIVITY

                To foster the values of love, respect, and gratitude, Mother’s Day was celebrated by the students of Classes III to V on 13th May 2025. The activity aimed to help students recognize and express appreciation for the unconditional love and efforts of their mothers.

                Children were encouraged to create a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ for their mothers. Using A-4 sized coloured pastel sheets, along with a range of decorative materials such as crayons, glitter pens, stickers, and ribbons, the students enthusiastically designed heartfelt and vibrant certificates.

                They also penned down personalized messages, expressing their admiration and love through drawings, quotes, and thoughtful words. Some students included short poems or described memorable moments shared with their mothers.

                The classroom buzzed with creativity and warmth as children poured their emotions into their work. Later, students were asked to present the certificates at home, making it a touching surprise for their mothers.

                The activity not only enhanced students’ creative and language skills but also strengthened their emotional connection with their families. The joy of creation and the happiness of giving made this celebration truly meaningful.

                  CLIMATE CHANGE WEEK

                  The goals of climate change adaptation are to reduce risk and vulnerability to Climate Change, strengthen resilience, enhance well being and the capacity to anticipate and respond successfully to change.

                  So integrating environmental education into the school education can create a good impact and help children understand the science behind the problem and the solutions. One of the main challenges of understanding climate change is that the main culprit heat trapping green houses gases –is invisible.

                  Through various activities, talks, discussion and with usages of AV aids classes I & II students were exposed to ways they can contribute to change.

                  Class I :

                  • 05 May 2025- Change the climate not the Earth : A short video was shown to the children on practices through which they can save mother Earth. Making use of public transport, turning off the vehicles at the signals, avoid honking etc. were the ways students could contribute in saving our planet.
                  • 09.05.2025–A small hands-on bookmark activity was planned for the students. It was discussed during the online class and students were assured they will be doing the activity once they join back after the summer vacation.

                  Cambridge Primary Stage 1

                  • 05.05.2025 – Students were explained how melting polar ice caps is affecting habitats of various animals like Polar bear, Penguins. To make it a fun learning activity students made polar bear and thoroughly enjoyed it.
                  • 08.05.2025- An interactive session was held by showing a short movie on how small efforts of every member of planet earth can make a vast difference. Students enjoyed making a head band to show their solidarity in saving mother earth.
                  • 09.05.2025-A small hands-on bookmark activity was planned for the students. It was discussed during the online class and students were assured they will be doing the activity once they join back after the summer vacation.

                  Class II and Cambridge Primary Stage 2

                  06.05.2025 - Change the Climate, Not the Earth!! -Teacher discussed various topics emphasizing how small actions can create big wonders. Sustainable practices in school life-Reuse-reduce-Recycle was stressed upon, use of public transport / school buses etc.

                  08.05.2025 - A bookmark making activity was conducted with a message to protect mother earth.

                  09.05.2025 – During online mode of teaching, the teachers explained the long lasting effects of global warming and how we can contribute by saving water, planting more trees, save electricity etc.

                    CLIMATE CHANGE WEEK

                    CLASSES: III-V

                    With an aim to increase awareness of climate issues among students, Climate Change Week was observed from Tuesday, 06 May 2025 to Friday,09 May 2025 for the students of classes III-V. The week raised the awareness among students about environmental challenges and encouraged sustainable practices. A series of interactive, educational, and creative activities were conducted throughout the week, engaging students in meaningful discussions and hands-on learning.

                    The class teachers initiated an interactive discussion with the help of Digiboard modules. The students participated in an open discussion about the causes and effects of climate change. Key points covered included greenhouse gases, global warming, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events. Students were encouraged to share their thoughts and examples of climate issues from around the world.

                    A worksheet was taken up in all the classes wherein the students wrote 30 associated mission slogans with each of the climate concerns and took responsibility of having positive behavior changes to reduce the environmental impact of these climatic changes.

                    Climate Change Week was a successful initiative that empowered students with knowledge and inspired them to take positive action to save environment

                      Jhelum House of DPS Dwarka organized Inter-House Table Tennis Competition (Final Round) on Thursday, 08 May 2025 for the students of classes VIII & IX. The event aimed to promote sportsmanship and physical fitness among our talented students and showcase their skills. The Prelim round was conducted on 25 April 2025.

                        Date: 08 May 2025

                        A whimsical world of melody, magic, and imagination was created by the students of Class 1 through their musical extravaganza – Alice in Musicland on Thursday, 08 May 2025. The event sparkled with the gracious presence of the Chief Guest, Dr Nandini Choudhury Sen, Member, Managing Committee, DPS Dwarka.

                        The celebration commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the triumph of knowledge over ignorance. In her welcome address, the Principal, Ms. Priya Narayanan welcomed the gathering with an inspiring address that set the tone for the magical journey ahead.

                        The chief guest, Dr Nandini Choudhury Sen emphasized the role of grandparents in nurturing the young minds into well balanced personalities and stressed that children should be made self sufficient and over indulgence of any kind should not be encouraged especially by the parents. She also expressed that students should be encouraged to read books as they provide a wealth of knowledge and inspire creativity. She concluded with Swami Vivekananda’s quote “Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is achieved”.

                        The performances of the students unfolded like a blooming flower, revealing vibrant characters that danced, sang, and played their parts with extraordinary flair. The event enthralled the audience and showcased the journey of Alice as she travelled through musicland with friends and discovered the true power of music.

                        The stage came alive with brilliant costumes, dazzling lights, and enchanting backdrops that transported the audience into a dreamscape of rhythm and rhyme. The props and the set up added a magical touch to the performances. Like a breath of fresh air, the event breathed life into the tale of Alice reimagined through the universal language of music.

                        The event culminated with the enthusing words of the Vice Principal, Ms. Anubha Malhotra. She appreciated and congratulated the children for putting up a stupendous show and thanked everyone for their support in making the show a great success.

                          WORLD THALASSEMIA DAY REPORT

                          CLASSES: III to V

                          Objective: - The purpose of observing World Thalassemia Day was to spread awareness among students of classes III to V about Thalassemia—a genetic blood disorder and to encourage empathy and responsibility towards those affected by it. The initiative aimed to inform students through engaging and educational activities.

                          Activities Conducted:

                          1. Awareness Session:

                          • Class teachers conducted an awareness session where students were informed about thalassemia, its causes and its impact on individuals and families.

                          2. Quiz Activity:

                          • A quiz was conducted with questions related to Thalassemia. Students participated actively, showing good understanding of the topic.

                          Conclusion: The observance helped students become more aware and sensitive about health conditions like Thalassemia. Initiatives like these play a vital role in nurturing awareness, empathy and collective responsibility towards addressing health issues in society.

                            MOCK EVACUATION DRILL AS PER MoHA GUIDELINES

                            In accordance with the directive issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi Public School, Dwarka conducted a disaster preparedness mock evacuation drill on Wednesday, 07 May 2025. The objective of the drill was to strengthen disaster management preparedness and ensure the safety and readiness of students and staff in the event of any emergency or unforeseen calamity.

                            The school follows a well-defined Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for emergency evacuation. The building evacuation plan is prominently displayed in all classrooms and corridors, and students are regularly briefed by teachers on evacuation protocols and safety measures.

                            During the drill, the entire school building was successfully evacuated in 03 minutes and 20 seconds. A total of 3135 students and 273 staff members assembled at the designated safe zones. Class teachers took attendance promptly to ensure that all students were safely accounted for and no one was left behind.

                            Personnel from the Fire Department were invited to conduct live demonstrations. Teachers and students were trained in the use of fire extinguishers and were briefed on appropriate response actions during emergencies.

                            The drill was carried out efficiently, reinforcing the importance of preparedness and presence of mind during crisis.

                            After the drill, a video on School Mock drill, Yuvamanthan, Government of India was also screened in all the classrooms via the smart boards.

                              The History Department of Delhi Public School, Dwarka, organised a career guidance workshop on Tuesday, 06 May 2025, in the school auditorium for students of Class XI. The session focussed on the growing field of Digital Humanities and its relevance to history, along with the broader significance of studying history itself.

                              Ms. Mehak Sejwal, Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Heritage and a Ph.D. candidate in Digital Humanities at IIT Jodhpur, highlighted how technology is transforming the humanities, particularly in exploring, analyzing, and preserving historical and cultural heritage. She explained that Digital Humanities provides valuable skills for careers in areas like archaeology, heritage management, and museum studies, emphasizing its importance for today's humanities students.

                              The workshop also featured Mr. Vikramaditya Jha, a Delhi University history alumnus. He spoke passionately about the crucial role of historical study beyond mere interest. He emphasized its importance in understanding cultures, traditions, and societies, and how this understanding is vital for policy making, conflict resolution, and building stronger relationships. He addressed the undervaluation of history as an academic subject, stressing that everything has a history that defines its existence. Mr. Jha contrasted social sciences with science, arguing that a greater appreciation for history would elevate the discipline and help combat misinformation.

                                An engaging and informative workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity was organised for classes VIII and IX on Friday, 2nd May 2025. The session aimed to spread awareness about the ethical use of AI, emerging cyber threats, and the importance of digital safety in our tech-driven lives.

                                The workshop began with an activity where students had to identify AI-generated images versus real ones. This sparked an interactive discussion on misinformation, deepfakes, and the growing need to verify digital content. Students also addressed concerns around over-reliance on AI, privacy issues, and how personal data is used to train AI models.

                                The session then transitioned into cybersecurity, where students learned about app permissions, data tracking, common scams like phishing, fake giveaways, unsafe downloads, and the risks of interacting with strangers online. Real-life scenarios and simple preventive measures were shared, helping students understand how to recognize and respond to cyber threats.

                                The workshop concluded with a glimpse into the positive potential of AI and a reminder that cybersecurity is not just a tech issue, but a life skill every digital citizen must develop.

                                  DESIGNING AND WEARING A SELF-DESIGNED SMILING FACE

                                  As part of the Awareness and Sensitisation Module, children participated in a joyful and creative activity Designing and Wearing a Self-Designed Smiling Face to celebrate World Laughter Day. The objective was to help students understand the importance of positivity, emotional well-being, and the value of spreading happiness.Each child brought a circular cutout (15 cm in diameter) along with decorative materials, colours, and Fevicol. With great enthusiasm, they designed smiling faces using vibrant colours, stickers, paper shapes, and other craft materials.After completing their artwork, the children wore their smiling faces and engaged in discussions about how laughter helps us feel better, builds friendships, and creates a happy environment.This activity sensitised the students to the importance of emotional expression, kindness, and positive social interaction. It was a successful and heart-warming experience that combined creativity with a valuable life lesson.

                                    The High Octane Club of DPS Dwarka successfully organized a thrilling and competitive gaming event titled “Circuit Serenity” for the students of Classes IX and XI. The event was held on 5 May 2025, with the objective of blending the excitement of motorsport with strategic gaming and digital literacy.

                                    The event included:

                                    • Knockout Races on world-famous Formula 1 circuits such as Silverstone, Monza, and Spa, where students competed head-to-head.
                                    • Score Tracking that kept the audience engaged and created an energetic race-day atmosphere.

                                    The final race was a nail-biting contest, with Kushagr Trehan (XI-A) and Vinayak Gaursi (XI-D) in the first batch and Vedant Ruhela (IX-D) and Divyansh Rao (IX-F) in the second batch claiming the title of winners. Both teams were awarded certificates.

                                    The event was met with enthusiastic participation and audience support. It not only encouraged sportsmanship and strategic thinking but also highlighted the growing relevance of e-sports and simulation games in education.                                       ASSEMBLY ON DIGNITY OF LABOUR

                                      CLASS: V-A

                                      True dignity lies not in status, but in sincere and honest work.

                                      The students of class V-A presented the assembly centered around the topic 'Dignity of Labour' on Friday, 02 May 2025. The assembly commenced with the prayer followed by a soulful performance by the school choir. The children sang an inspiring song that celebrated the dignity of labour, urging everyone to work hard, stay determined, and never give up. Their voices echoed a powerful message — that every honest job deserves respect and that true success comes through dedication and perseverance.

                                      The thought of the day highlighted the essence of dignity in labour – the idea that all work, regardless of its nature, is honourable and worthy of respect. Several speakers with the help of placards spoke about how each job holds value and deserves utmost respect regardless of the nature or the social status it may confer. Mahatma Gandhi preached dignity of labour in the Sabarmati Ashram. A poem related to the topic was also recited to stress that all types of jobs should be respected equally and no work should be deemed inferior or be overlooked.

                                      Overall, the assembly was informative, inspiring, and served as a reminder of the values of equality, respect, and humility.

                                        OPEN INTERNATIONAL FIDE RATED TOURNAMENT

                                        DPS DWARKA'S CHESSMATES SHINE AT ECA OPEN INTERNATIONAL FIDE RATED TOURNAMENT

                                        DPS Dwarka’s official chess club, ChessMates, brought laurels to the school by securing second place among school teams at the prestigious ECA Open International FIDE Rated Chess Tournament, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 26–27 April 2025.

                                        The event witnessed 400 participants, including both rated and emerging players, compete in 9 rounds of rapid chess. The

                                        ChessMates team — Priyansh Gehani XIID, Vishwesh Verma XIID, Manan Dilwaria XID, Geet Sachdev XIA, and Dhruv Keshav Kak VIIC — displayed outstanding strategy, resilience, and teamwork throughout the two day competition. They won the Runners-up Trophy for best school team.

                                        Participating in a FIDE-recognised international tournament offered the students a valuable platform to test their skills and composure under pressure. Ms Priya Narayanan, Principal,DPS Dwarka applauded the efforts of the team for their dedication and passion, which continue to exemplify the school’s commitment to holistic excellence.

                                        This tournament has not only strengthened the team’s bond but also set the stage for greater victories ahead — on and off the 64 squares.

                                          WORLD HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATION AND COMPETITION

                                          DPS Dwarka celebrated World Heritage Day with great enthusiasm on Thursday, 17 April 2025. The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the importance of preserving our cultural and historical heritage.

                                          Students of Classes VI and VII actively participated in the celebration through creative activities. Class VI students showcased their artistic skills by designing pamphlets based on the theme ‘Maritime Heritage City’. Their work reflected the significance of ancient ports, maritime trade, and the cultural richness of India’s coastal cities.

                                          Meanwhile, Class VII students created informative brochures under the theme ‘Heritage Tourism’. They highlighted various heritage sites across India, emphasising their historical value and the role of tourism in heritage conservation.

                                          The activities were conducted during school hours and witnessed enthusiastic participation from all students. The event successfully encouraged young minds to explore and appreciate India’s vast and diverse heritage.
