SUGAR BOARDS

In alignment with CBSE’s health and wellness initiatives, Delhi Public School, Dwarka launched the “How Sweet is Too Sweet Campaign” to cultivate awareness among students about the harmful effects of excessive sugar consumption and to promote healthy dietary habits. The campaign aimed to instill mindfulness in food choices and encourage lifelong wellness practices.

To support the growing need to address health concerns such as obesity, dental issues, and nutritional deficiencies, students actively participated in a series of informative and interactive sessions. Creative sugar boards were prepared, and children brought nutritious, low-sugar tiffins, encouraging healthier lunch practices. The school campus was decorated with vibrant bulletin boards displaying sugar-related facts, posters, and awareness messages to serve as constant visual reminders of the campaign's core message.

Students pledged their commitment to healthier choices by contributing to ‘My Healthy Pledge Wall’, where they wrote down personal promises to reduce sugar intake. A JAM session titled “I will consume less sugar because…” encouraged students to articulate their understanding of sugar's impact and express their motivation to adopt better habits. These activities were designed to promote critical thinking and reinforce the importance of moderation in sugar consumption.

An oral health awareness session was conducted by a medical professional to educate students on the direct link between sugar and dental health. Teachers also facilitated classroom-based PowerPoint presentations and discussions that emphasized the broader effects of processed sugar on the body, promoting healthier food alternatives.

Further strengthening the initiative, a poster-making competition was held on the theme “Limit Sugar, Live Better”, sparking creative expression while reinforcing the campaign’s goals. In the “Know Your Sugar Level Challenge”, students brought sugar data from home and engaged in a fun comparative learning session. Storytelling sessions focused on saying “No to Sugar” were conducted to build early awareness and instill healthy attitudes from a young age.

A Healthy Tiffin Day was observed, where students shared their thoughtfully packed, low-sugar meals, helping each other explore new and nutritious food choices. To promote physical activity as a complementary strategy for health, a Fitness Initiative involving short, guided exercise sessions was also introduced.

A session on label reading, led by the science faculty, educated students on identifying hidden sugars in packaged foods and interpreting nutritional labels, enabling informed decision-making. To wrap up the campaign on an interactive note, students used Selfie Boards with health slogans and watched selected advertisements related to sugar awareness, making the learning process both engaging and impactful.

The How Sweet is Too Sweet Campaign was a holistic program that combined information, interaction, and involvement to drive home the message of mindful sugar consumption. Through a blend of creative expression, scientific education, and reflective thinking, students were encouraged to make informed dietary choices. The campaign successfully fostered an environment of awareness, responsibility, and health consciousness, which was well received by the entire school community.
