DECODE, DEBATE, DISCOVER
CLASS XI
The Sociology Club of DPS Dwarka, Socius, organised its inter-disciplinary competitions for the students of Class XI. The event was conducted under the guidance of the teacher in-charge with the aim of fostering curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and social awareness among the students. The programme comprised broadly of three activities namely Mystery Clue, Socio-Scene, and Dual Dilemma, each designed to combine sociological knowledge with problem-solving, communication, and teamwork.
1. Mystery Clue – Race to Decode Society
In this action-packed competition, students raced against time to solve riddles, puzzles, symbolic objects, and situational prompts, all connected to sociological concepts and contemporary issues. The activity created a thrilling atmosphere as teams engaged in quick thinking and problem-solving. Students gave highly positive feedback, appreciating the challenging yet enjoyable format.
2. Socio-Scene – Decode the Norm
In this competition, visuals such as advertisements, film stills, and photographs were displayed to the participants, who were required to identify the embedded social issue within two minutes and suggest a constructive solution. The session witnessed vibrant discussions and fresh insights, with participants showing originality and clarity of thought.
3. Dual Dilemma – A Debate of Perspectives, organised in collaboration with Socrates – The Debating Society
The motion for the debate was: “This House would recognise online activism (‘slacktivism’) as a driver of real social change.” Following the Asian Parliamentary format, students engaged in a formal debate showcasing their oratory skills, critical reasoning, and ability to present multiple perspectives. The presence of members from Socrates added further intellectual vibrancy to the session, inspiring the participants to present well-structured arguments and engage with counterpoints confidently.
The highlight of the event was the poster designed by a member of the Sociology Club. The poster creatively depicted the spirit of sociology through a blend of visuals and text, and was displayed as part of the event announcement. The creation of the poster also highlighted how interdisciplinary contributions can enrich co-curricular activities, combining visual communication with academic inquiry. This creative initiative not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the programme but also helped in generating greater awareness and excitement among the students.
The events concluded successfully, with the teacher in-charges and organisers commending the students for their enthusiasm, creativity, and analytical strength. It was evident from the students’ excitement and feedback that the competitions were both enjoyable and intellectually stimulating. Such activities, though beyond the usual classroom curriculum, serve to supplement academic learning in meaningful ways.
